5. Interrogation → You're being interrogated for some offense you've done.

4. Costume party → You're at a costume party, both of you are wearing masks. Do you keep the anonymity or take it off and see whose company you've been enjoying?

6. Drunk → You're already drunk! Drunk dialing, stumbling into someone, showing up unexpected... what type of drunk are you anyway? Aggressive, loving, happy? How does the other react?
7. Rivals → you're suddenly rivals! Or maybe you have been all along...
8. Problems → you've got a problem with each other, just got in a huge fight, whatever. Try to work it out!
9. What are your intentions... → This person? They're dating a close friend, family member, etc. You need to find out if they're going to hurt them! Or you need to discuss your friend/family's dating choice.
10. I saw you → you saw the other person doing something bad and you need to confront them about it.
11. Sorry but no → the other person has feelings that you just don't share. They don't necessarily have to be romantic... maybe you just don't agree with their sudden desire to quit their job and start a business making tiny, fuzzy teddy bears.
12. Enabler → you're enabling the other (or each other) to do something bad, really bad. Addiction, stealing, killing, or just any other self-destructive behavior.
13. Cooking → Time for an impromptu cooking lesson!
14. Boss → One of you works under the other. Is your relationship good? Are you scheming things? Or do you hate each other?
15. Perfect crime → You and the other person have just pulled off the perfect crime... or you're planning to! What are you doing? The heist of the century, an assassination?

[ Micchi has honestly been staring into space this whole time; he knows it's sensible to keep up with current events, whether niisan had suggested it or not, but they're only repeating the same stories and scraping at the bottom of the barrel now. He focuses his gaze again and flicks his eyes sideways to look at Takatora. It's unusual for niisan to make a bold sort of suggestion like this, so he must want their time together to continue.

...Micchi doesn't mind that either. He shrugs. ]

Sure. Did you have something in mind, niisan?

... It depends what's on. There's usually one of those animated movies you used to like...

[It's a little bit cautious, only slightly teasing. He's not sure how Mitsuzane will take that... then again...]

[He's not a child anymore, after all.]

I'm sure there's something else...

[He flicks through the channels, landing on a drama about a young violinist trying to make it into a famous orchestra. He glances over at Mitsuzane to judge his reaction. ... If he can even judge it right anymore.]

[It's actually amusing when niisan tries to joke; and Micchi levels a look at him for a few moments before deciding that is in fact what niisan is trying to do. The fact that he follows it up by acknowledging Micchi probably isn't into those sort of things anymore allows Micchi to respond with a wry twist of the mouth rather than annoyance.

Niisan changes the channel. The movie that comes on is set in an orchestra and the main character plays... the violin. Micchi was made to learn the violin as a small child, too. It brings back mixed memories; endless, boring practice - and yet, a happier time of life in general. He gestures to the screen.]

I don't really miss that. Did you have to learn something when you were younger too, niisan?

[Micchi was probably too small to remember, but it could possibly have been the piano? Not because either of them wanted to, just to show they had good breeding.]

I did. The violin was considered, but it was the piano and the flute. ... The flute was dropped fairly quickly. I think it's gathering dust in a closet somewhere.

[He doesn't miss that, either.]

I was told I had pianist fingers, anyway. Long and thin... not really to be 'wasted' on the flute. ... But Father let me stop by the time I was in high school. Things were starting to get... difficult by then.

[He doesn't have to say why. They don't need to speak of that place anymore. His introduction to it had been far more drawn-out than Mitsuzane's had. ... He pulls his thoughts away from it and back to the screen, where there's a young woman from the orchestra who is playing the oboe. The main character seems to have a crush on her, and Takatora shakes his head.]

... Father always chased away anyone who ever came close to trying to date me. I remember you glaring at them, as well.

[Micchi can't imagine someone like niisan on the flute; sure he hadn't been tall and muscular and serious back then, but that's the only image Micchi knows, and thinking of his niisan now on the flute makes him want to laugh. He keeps the reaction buried though.

Especially when niisan talks about more serious things. Micchi just nods. No matter what they discuss niisan is reminded of painful memories. It's not fair on him.

Much easier to follow niisan's lead and look back at the TV screen. Then he has context for the subject change: romance. Micchi lifts his chin defiantly.]

I just didn't think any of them were good enough for you.

[Their father's reasons had no doubt been totally different.]

[He manages a tiny bit of huffing laughter at that. Of course he didn't.]

You were practically attached to my side those days. I don't think most of them would have appreciated you tagging along to a movie or dinner, anyway.

[He puts a hand near Mitsuzane's - not touching it yet, but there.]

I doubt Father would have approved of many of my choices in any case. At least the ones that... my heart told me, rather than the ones I thought he'd approve of for business purposes.

[Saying something like that... he feels so exposed to Mitsuzane. He's never really come out and said that to anyone, even if the evidence was obvious to someone like Ryouma who actually paid attention.]

[Micchi folds his arms and tries not to pout. It's difficult when his entire life since toddlerhood he's been pouting around niisan to get what he wants. But he's practically an adult now. Some things always make you regress?]

If they couldn't have dealt with me being around they wouldn't have been right for you anyway. Just because you meet someone doesn't mean you neglect your family.

[Ha, Micchi is one to talk, considering he did his best to ignore his responsiblities as a Kureshima to go off and have fun with his friends. But the rules are different for niisan! Totally different. He's the elder; he has an obligation to look out for his younger sibling. Micchi's not a hypocrite.

He does sympathise with the dilemma of heart vs. head, though.]

You couldn't be with someone you didn't care about; you'd be miserable. [Niisan is too good-hearted to fake it. He'd do his duty, but it would be obvious it was a duty. Micchi looks down at their hands that are nearer to one another than before.] ...So you do get that good business decisions aren't always what's right in someone's heart.

... I know. I couldn't bring myself to keep trying. And then when Father left me in charge, I had some opportunities... but I just didn't have time for anything serious.

[A few desperate sessions of sex, but not a real relationship. And is he really about to admit this to his brother?]

He... wouldn't have approved of where most of my... attractions were, anyway. I'm supposed to carry on the line and all...

[He coughs slightly, glancing down at his chest to avoid his brother's gaze. He shouldn't have admitted that. he's never admitted that to anyone.]

[Oh, niisan. He isn't wrong about their father in that respect. While it would've shocked the man they never saw though, this isn't really news to Micchi though. He's far more observant than niisan gives him credit for. No point asking if niisan really thought he'd hidden it well - especially his feelings for Ryoma-san - because clearly he does think so. Niisan just needs to know he has... support.

Or something. Something like that.]

It's good that our father is no longer a concern and you can date men as much as you please.

...So can I. If I want to.

[Might as well toss that bombshell out there quickly and quietly, see if they can gloss over it as a mutual commonality and that's it.

[... He goes quiet for a few moments, considering just turning off the movie if they're going down this route of discussion, but... he doesn't. He should, but he doesn't.]

I... suppose I didn't... consider that you... well.

[Is it really that surprising? It shouldn't be, though he'd... noticed Mitsuzane's attachment to at least one woman in particular, when he'd examined all of the evidence. It shouldn't be surprising that he'd go for both, even though he'd never seen it. That doesn't mean it's not there, though. He'd missed so much with Mitsuzane.]

You can... make more of your own choices now, yes.

[As for him? He's not sure if he can ever bring himself to try again.]

[Better to have the sound in the background anyway; they can both pretend they're actually watching a movie and not discussing things more honestly than they ever have before. Not that that's saying much when Micchi still can't speak in anything but allusions and inferences.

Micchi lets out a small breath that could almost be a laugh if any noise had accompanied it.]

You didn't consider that I could be interested in men? Or were you thinking I was still too young to be interested in anyone at all?

[Micchi cuts himself off there; no need to pick up and pace and make himself even more annoyed. Keep calm.]

I'm not a child anymore. And I want to be trusted to make all of my own choices, not just some of them.

[Ah. And there's the defiance. He'd expected that. He struggles to keep his own voice calm. They both have work to do - Mitsuzane can't run away from these obligations.]

I know you do. But we both have a lot of work to for Zawame. We cannot run away or ignore those duties.

[Both of them have made too many wrong choices.]

... I am trying to allow you to make your own choices. I know what happened the last time I tried to force your path. But we both have to face what we've done... though I won't leave you to face it alone.

[Urgh, niisan still thinks he's a child, too young to have even experienced attraction to anyone.

It has successfully distracted them from the awkward topic of niisan's love life (the lack there of) anyway. Micchi doesn't want to think about that. How hopeless it's been so far, or what would happen if niisan did meet The One.

It just means they have to talk about other issues from the past Micchi would rather forget about. But that's a fantasy; he can't. He never can. Not for a moment.

At least niisan is honest when he says he's trying to give Micchi his freedom. He doesn't try to insist that he is, because that would be stupid. It would actually be stupid to give Micchi that freedom.

Is he supposed to thank niisan for that, though? Micchi doesn't want to do that, so he just glances Takatora's way and gives a brief nod of understanding.]

[He curls his fingers and turns away, closing his eyes.]

I want to trust you, Mitsuzane. I want to let you be as free as possible. Once we rebuild somewhat... I'll do my best not to dictate your activities anymore.

[It had only caused his brother pain, and he wants to let him do as he wishes if only out of fear of what he might do if he's constrained again... but Mitsuzane has to take responsibility. Not as much weight as Takatora himself has to carry, but he can't run away from his mistakes.]

I'm sorry, Mitsuzane. This falls on both of us, much as I wish it didn't.

[Oh no. One thing Micchi can't really bear is to hear niisan apologising like that, not now. Not after everything Micchi has done to him. Not after every single day waiting for niisan to wake up - knowing he probably never would - that Micchi wished he could just say those two tiny words.

Even now it's difficult to. Because they don't encompass enough. They don't say what he really means. "I'm sorry," is too pitiful compared to what he has done.

Micchi reaches out to cling to Takatora's wrist.]

Please. Don't. [His teeth are gritted, eyes squeezed tightly shut.] You don't need to apologise to me.

[Not for that. Not for expecting Micchi to bne responsible for his own actions. That's just sensible.

It's just... so difficult. Micchi doesn't quite know where to start just yet. He's still figuring it out.]

[He nearly flinches at the movement, but controls himself. Mitsuzane needs him right now, needs him to be strong, needs him to be here for him, even through the storm of everything they've done. He hesitates a moment, and then tugs his brother towards him to try to draw him into a hug.]

[He's never been very physically affectionate, but if there's any time that Mitsuzane needs it, it's now.]

I do. I was the one who pushed you into those things. ... I only wanted what I thought was best for you... but I pushed too hard, didn't i? I pushed you away.

[He's not the most perceptive, but... well. He's spent a lot of time thinking about this.]

[ What is niisan doing? Micchi feels himself being... drawn under niisan's arm, sheltered by it.

It brings back familiar memories of being very small and curling up close to cling to niisan. Not always becausehe was crying; sometimes because he was sleepy, or because he was just an affectionate child. It had been so easy back then. It's obvious why that isn't the case any longer.

He mustn't lie to niisan now, not even if the truth is going to hurt.]

You expected too much, niisan. [Micchi buries his face a little to muffle his words. Maybe if they don't come out so loud and clear they won't hurt so much.] You didn't ask what I wanted. And then I didn't try to correct you. I just went and rebelled.

[Rebelled is only the beginning of what he did, but that part he can talk about. Sort of. That's enough words about it for this moment.]

[He tilts his head down so he can press his cheek against the top of his brother's head like he used to. His fingers curl into Mitsuzane's shirt, holding him protectively. He doesn't want his brother to hurt. Takatora doesn't want to be hurt either.]

... I know. I should have. I assumed. I assumed too much, that what I had planned for you was something you wanted or at least wouldn't mind. I was wrong. And that is why I apologized.

[ Niisan is warm. He's been at such a distance all these years somehow Micchi assumed his embrace would feel cold, but he's so gentle it's like he thinks Micchi would be hurt if he squeezed too hard.

Or he's trying not to make the same mistake physically as he did mentally: he held too tight. ]

I didn't tell you otherwise; I didn't help the situation. I let you think everything was alright. At first because I didn't want to let you down. [Micchi slips an arm around Takatora's waist. Niisan even being able to stand touching him is a miracle after everything that has happened.] But then I got angry. I felt like you surely knew how miserable I was and were just ignoring it. Which was stupid; I was stupid to let myself think it. But it took the blame off of me, so I convinced myself that was how things were.

[Micchi's problem has always been not taking the blame for his own actions, his mistakes.]

I'm sorry for that, niisan. And... everything. I'm more than sorry for everything else.

[He hesitates as his brother puts an arm around him. It's slow, but it's progress. It's something. They're both trying to feel each other out, aren't they? ... At least... they have this much.]

Mitsuzane...

[He presses a gentle kiss to the top of his brother's head, trying to keep his emotions in check. He has to, if only for his brother's sake.]

If I had realized... with how things were going, I'm not sure... what I could have changed. But I could have tried. I was blind. I was blind to how much you were hurting, and I never want you to have to feel that hurt again. I know that feeling hurt is inevitable... but I promise that I will at least do my best to help you through it from now on. I swear, Mitsuzane.

... I will be with you... for as long as you wish for me to be.

[As awkward as it kind of is, this closeness actually feels good? Micchi files that thought away into his subconscious.]

I will... [Micchi looks at a random spot on his pants for a good long while before finishing his sentence. At least niisan is patient and willing to let him finish.] Let you?

[Micchi's a great liar, no trouble at all, but this is hard because it has to be true. He has to say it and mean it! No more lying to niisan, not anymore. Not for the 'greater good' or whatever he thinks. Micchi can't trust his own judgement anymore, after all!]

It's just so hard, niisan. Letting someone in. Letting them see your vulnerablities. I never wanted anyone to try and take advantage of me.

[Look how well that worked, Micchi thinking he was so clever that even Sengoku Ryoma couldn't play him. He laughs bitterly at himself.]

... I know. I tried to do that, but... well.

[He'd played both of them. So many people had played him, and he'd been so blind. Even Mitsuzane had done it.]

I can't say I have much... experience in that, either. I used to be better at it, but then... I shut down. I suppose maybe it was too late by then.

[The closeness is a little awkward, but... Mitsuzane seems to be all right with it, so he'll keep going for now.]

I... need you to try to be honest with me from now on, and I'll do the same. No more secrets. No more hiding, Mitsuzane. Not from each other. I think... we will need to help keep each other from... doing something regretful.

... It's not as if this is easy for me, either.

[This is getting to be too much to talk about, Micchi doesn't like it. Admitting to himself that he knows niisan never lets anyone get close to him these days either, not after the way he was betrayed... He has far more reason not to trust than Micchi does. Micchi was the betrayer, not the betrayed.

How can niisan bear to be near him, let alone hold him like this?

It's not as if this is easy for me, either. Micchi bristles at those words. As if he could forget!]

It can't be easy for niisan. [Micchi fixes his eyes straight ahead on the TV, staring but not seeing anything on the screen.] He has to spend every day with the person he trusted, the person who nearly got him killed, more than once. And not just be near him, but help him, and care for him, and apologise to him. How can you stand it? [Micchi blinks hard to hold back tears.] How can you stand me?

[It's a good question, and the answer is something he can't quite put into words. It's a little difficult to try, but he has to, for Mitsuzane's sake.]

Because you are my brother.

[His grip tightens briefly, holding him close, before he reaches up to brush the back of his brother's hair. He remembers doing this as a child.. hopefully it will help.]

Because as much as you have the capability to do terrible things, I believe that the path that leads to them is not the only path you can take. Because I believe... that you can do better. That you are better.

[Isn't that what Kazuraba Kouta had tried to tell him - that there was always hope? That even in the face of unspeakable tragedy, people could act better than they had before? That there was a better path than the one of death and tragedy?]

Because you are my brother, and I will always care about you.

[Because they're brothers? Micchi doesn't understand that at first; he opens his mouth to protest as much, and then he stops.

Isn't that part of what hurt him so much in the first place? He'd told himself it was the way everyone became completely enamoured with niisan after meeting him, because his pure heart and desire to help the entire world shine out of him. Micchi couldn't compare to that, and so he'd gotten jealous and bitter. But Micchi is well aware that nobody can resist how good niisan is. He'd actually been upset that everyone had wanted a piece of Takatora. Of his niisan. He's nobody else's brother, only Micchi's!

So perhaps he does understand how it feels to make that claim of kinship. A little. It means nobody else understands how it felt to have grown up as a Kureshima. Nobody else pushed you on swings, helped you up when you fell, dried your eyes with the pocket square they'd had even when they were a pre-teen.

Micchi blinks, feeling hair tickling his nose and realises that while he's been processing all this at some point he'd flung his arms around niisan's neck, burying his face against niisan's shoulder. He can't agree right now that he believes he's capable of better, but he can cling tight and will it to be true.]
